How to read the result

Equivalent amount = original amount × target-year CPI ÷ starting-year CPI. Each country uses its own annual series (2010=100). Reversing years reverses the conversion.

192 of 218 economies have observations in this snapshot; coverage years vary. Missing data is not replaced with US CPI. CPI measures domestic price change, not price-level differences between countries, exchange rates or currency redenominations.

Canada Inflation Calculator

What is your money worth now? Compare CAD purchasing power across available years using annual World Bank CPI data for Canada.

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose the country whose prices you want to follow.
  2. Choose two years with published CPI observations.
  3. Enter an amount in a consistent currency unit for that country.

How to read the result

Equivalent amount = original amount × target-year CPI ÷ starting-year CPI. Each country uses its own annual series (2010=100). Reversing years reverses the conversion.

What this estimate does not capture

Canada: calculation basis and example

This comparison uses Canada’s annual CPI observations in a consistent CAD unit. Annual averages describe national price changes, not the cost of your own basket or the difference between cities. The latest available observation may lag the current year.

Fixed educational comparison in CAD, independent of the inputs above.

Start with $1,000.00 in 2015. Using the stored Canada CPI observations (2010 = 100), multiply by 2025 CPI ÷ 2015 CPI. The starting money amount is hypothetical; the two CPI values are published observations. Calculation uses the unrounded indices.

Results under the stated assumptions
Observation yearAnnual CPIEquivalent amount
2015108.672$1,000.00
2025140.9702$1,297.21

What the difference tells you

The measured cumulative price change is 29.72% over these ten years. An unchanged $1,000.00 budget would not buy the same representative basket if its price rose. This is a cumulative change, not a one-year inflation rate. Your rent, energy or food costs can move differently from the national average.

Reproduce and compare

Select Canada, enter 1000 and years 2015 and 2025, then calculate. Reverse the years to express the later amount in earlier-year purchasing power. Comparing this index level with another country’s index level does not compare living costs: both use an arbitrary base year.

Frequently asked questions

Does changing the country change the inflation data?

Yes. Country selection loads that country’s actual World Bank CPI series. Only years with published values can be selected.

Why is a country or recent year unavailable?

The source may not publish that economy or year. We show the available period, never substitute another country or invent a value.

Can I compare living costs between countries?

CPI compares price changes within one country. It is not a purchasing-power-parity or currency conversion tool. Keep currency units consistent across redenominations.
