MAKE SENSE OF THE SCORE

A mood check.
Not a price prediction.

01

Two markets, different measures

Stocks combine market measures such as momentum and volatility. Bitcoin considers volatility, volume and market attention. Equal scores do not imply equal risk or expected returns.

02

Changes are points, not percentages

A move from 30 to 40 is a rise of 10 points, not a 10% price gain. Historical comparisons use the nearest observation on or before the target date, with its actual date shown.

03

Extreme moods can persist

Fear is not automatically a buy signal, nor greed a sell signal. This is context for understanding markets, not a substitute for an investment decision.

Sources and display methodology

U.S. stock data comes from the public Fear & Greed Graph API. This is not an official CNN partnership. Bitcoin data is published by Alternative.me. Data may be delayed or revised.

Display bands: below 25 extreme fear; 25 to below 45 fear; 45–55 neutral; above 55 to below 75 greed; 75 and above extreme greed. Bitcoin labels prefer the source's classification. Values are shown to one decimal place; missing values are never replaced by zero.

The open page checks for data every 15 minutes. Stocks may have no new observation on weekends and holidays. The one-year chart spans 365 days ending at the latest observation.
